4th Six Weeks (Week 2)

Science:

Monday:   
·         Students Science Journal & Student Binder update
o   Students will update notes and class work for their student portfolio and science journal.
o   Student blog reminders and upkeep

Tuesday:
·         Introduction to Energy
o   What is energy?
o   Compare kinetic and potential energy
·         Can objects have potential & kinetic energy at the same time?
·         Discuss gravitational potential energy; give examples
·         Describe mechanical energy
o   Is the sum of potential and kinetic energy:
o   Can be made up entirely of potential, entirely of kinetic, or both.





Wednesday:
·         Discuss the different forms energy can take
o   Mechanical energy
o   Sound energy
o   Electromagnetic energy
o   Chemical energy
o   Thermal energy
o   Nuclear energy
o   Electrical energy
·          Provide examples of different forms of energy.


Thursday:
·         What is: The Law of Conservation of Energy
o   Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only change into a different form.
·         What is an energy transformation?
o   Discuss energy transformations and demonstrate examples of these transformations.





Friday:
·         Individual student practice
o   Energy types & Energy Transformations

Entomology:

Monday:   
·         External Anatomy of Insects continued
·         Review and Discuss an insects external anatomy
o   Head
§  Eyes
§  Antennae
§  Mouthparts




Tuesday:
·         External Anatomy of Insects continued
o   Thorax
§  Segmentation
§  Legs
§  Wings





Wednesday:
·         External Anatomy of Insects continued
o   Abdomen
§  Segmentation
§  External structures



Thursday:
·         Insect External Anatomy Assignment
o   Student must label an insect diagram with the correct external body structures




Friday:
·         Exploration of the ant
o   We will be taking a closer look at the ant its external anatomy and life cycle.
