Science
Monday:
·         Temperature Review:
o   How are heat and energy related to each other?
o   What is measured when we measure temperature?
·         New Lesson: Thermal Energy & Heat
o   Define Thermal Energy
o   Discuss the difference between thermal energy and temperature.

Tuesday:
·         Define Heat?
·         How is heat measured?
o   Calorie, Joules
o   1 calorie = 4.18 joules
·         Differentiate between heat and thermal energy.
·         Define: conduction, conductor, insulator, and radiation

Wednesday:
·         Small groups activity: Heat Race:
  • Students will be given an ice cube inside a Ziploc bag and must then discuss within their groups the best approach to melt the ice cube without opening the Ziploc bag. They can use anything in the room to help: sunlight, warm air, body heat, etc… Then test their approach in a race to determine which method of heat transfer is the fastest.
o   After all groups have finished, we will discuss how long each method took.

Thursday:
·         Thermal Energy in a bottle Demonstration
·         Which way did the energy go? Review Activity
o   Methods of thermal energy transfer:
§  Conduction, Convection & Radiation

Friday:
·         Temperature, Thermal Energy, and Heat Quiz
